Social Starters
(Formerly PreK/TK Playgroup)
What is Social Starters?
SSocial Starters is a high-support early social learning group for children who are just beginning to learn how to be part of a group. Children in this group often have limited spoken language, emerging joint attention skills, and need strong visual support and adult guidance to stay engaged. Adult support is continuous and hands-on, with frequent modeling, visual cues, and help joining play, sharing space, and staying with the group. This group focuses on building the earliest foundations for group participation, shared attention, and social connection.
What to Expect:
When: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 3:00–4:30 pm
Parent Involvement: Parents are required to stay nearby and actively support their child during parts of the session as guided by the staff.
Learning, Connecting, and Growing Through Play
A Social Starters or formerly known as the Preschool or Transitional Kindergarten (TK) playgroup is a structured social learning experience where children practice important skills—like sharing, communication, and emotional regulation—through play.
Unlike free play or traditional preschool, our playgroup is:
Purposefully structured
Led by experienced behavioral specialists
Focused on social development
Small-group based for individualized support
Children learn best through play, and this group uses play as a tool to teach lifelong social skills.

FAQ on the Teens, Kids, and Social Motivation Groups:
Q: What happens if there is not a group that addresses my child's specific needs?
A: We are always looking to potentially expand our groups depending on the needs of those who have expressed interest. Even if we do not have an appropriate placement at this time, we will keep your contact information and reach out in the future if/when we do have an appropriate social group placement.
